High-Performance USB-C PD Charging Ports for Passenger Areas
Railway technology specialist LÜTZE TRANSPORTATION, Germany, introduces 100% railway-compliant, tamper-proof 40 W USB-C charging systems with Power Delivery technology for passenger areas.
With its new USB-C charging systems, LÜTZE TRANSPORTATION gives OEMs and rail operators the option to remove 230 V Schuko outlets from passenger areas. Power Delivery (PD) enables safe, high-speed charging without damaging the battery. The LÜTZE USB-C charging port provides 40 W of output power at 5 to 20 V and up to 3 A, sufficient for high-performance smartphones and tablets. With energy efficiency of over 80% and standby energy consumption of less than 50 mW, the unit has minimal power draw on the vehicle's electrical system. Dynamic charging protocol detection identifies the power requirements of the connected device and efficiently adjusts the charging current. Continuous operation is possible at temperatures from -25 °C to +55 °C, with a service life of 20,000 operating hours at full load.

The new USB-C charging system from LÜTZE TRANSPORTATION complies with all relevant railway standards, including EN 50155, EN 50121-3-2, EMV06, EN 61373, and EN 45545-2. With dimensions of (W x H x D) 40.3 x 43.4 x 41.5 mm, the system is significantly more compact than conventional Schuko outlet units. This makes it ideal for installation between seats or in the vehicle sidewalls. LÜTZE engineers placed particular emphasis on safety when developing the new USB-C charging ports. The system is completely tamper-proof. The passenger-side front cover is clipped in from the rear rather than screwed in, which prevents removal of the USB charging port from the passenger side. The USB system operates with an input voltage of 230 V AC and provides a maximum output voltage of 20 V. This eliminates the risk of electric shock for users.
